Nashville Film Festival

Well - talk about a hiatus! I have had loads to say, but NO time to say it. Whitney, Lorelai, and I blazed a path across America to Nashville (not for the festival but for SB2K9) - that's 18hrs of power! The NFF was last weekend. We were there but not there. We were down the hall at "I Love You, Man" (which I thoroughly enjoyed as you know I love a good bromance). The lead off film for the festival will likely be in theaters this summer.
"(500) Days of Summer"
is yet another attempt to be the next "Little Miss Sunshine" or "Juno". It appears to be palatable. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun and 10 Things I Hate...) and Zooey Deschanel (one of my favorites and Whitney's least). He's in love. She's not that serious about love. Indie ro-com ensues! Keep it on your radar:

SNL, Step Up!

After some pretty weak shows this year (and some good moments, too), let me say, " SNL, don't be lame tonight". Seth Rogen is hosting with one of my favorite bands and the only thing I like that is French - Phoenix. Their new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (more on it to come on FWYH) comes out in May, and their last one (see above) was one of my favorites of 2006 and is a must own in my humble opinion. Check em out tonight. If you like you can download their lead song, "1901", for free on their website (here). Hope you enjoy! Whitney always knows them as - "Isn't that Sofia Coppola's baby's daddy?".

Yes....

UPDATE (4/5) -
L'avez-vous vu ? Incroyable !

Table for 2 ?

Do you guys use Open Table? We do from time to time for reservations (mainly because I have a phone phobia - seriously.....). We have used it 3 times in the past month and have a new fetish. When you make your reservation, you are given the option of 500 words for the Maitre 'D for "Special Instructions". For s__ & giggles, put something there for a laugh - hopefully they're not going to spit in our food. For instance, we just made our Easter reservations.

Special Instructions for the Maitre D
: "Dress as a Bunny. No eye contact."

It seems funny to us? We are bored....and heading for some salmonella in our Easter Brunch....

Remember This One? Chasing Amy

I'll admit it. From 1995-2001, I was all about anything Kevin Smith put his hands on. His most critically acclaimed film was 1997's Chasing Amy. After the commercial flop of Mallrats, Smith went back to his indie roots with his dramedy about a comic writer (Ben Affleck) who falls for another writer (Joey Lauren Adams) who happens to be a lesbian. He's followed around by his inker buddy (Jason Lee) as he fights to get her to change teams. Adams even got a Golden Globe nod. It's on IFC right now. I used to own it. Another victim of the fraternity house.....David Zegley, I've got my eye on you.

The movie starts off at Comic Con (that's "Con-vention" you non-nerds) with a classic rant about racism in Star Wars by Black Panther comic writer, Hooper X.
Here's the scene - vulgar, wrong - hilarious.....

It's a BEAR Market!

Guess who just became a Bears fan?
ME, baby!
Jay Cutler was just traded to the Chicago Bears from Denver. After months of squabbling with the firing of coach Mike Shanahan, the hiring of Josh McDaniels and the attempted trade of Jay Cutler, the attempt is good! I loathe anything from Bill Belichek or the New England Patriots - Josh McDaniels included. With 3 other Vanderbilt Commodores playing for the Bears (WR - Earl Bennett, OL - Chris Williams, and LB - Hunter Hillenmeyer), any Vandy fan has got to have a little space in their heart for the Windy City. Can't wait to re-kindle the Cutler to Bennett flame! I'm getting a replica jersey on the 1st pressing.......

Living Voice

At Barsuk Records, they sure love the boy girl duos/couples. Their flagship in this category is Mates of State. Just behind them with a guitar rather than the electric keyboard/organ, is the Muscles Shoals/Flo' Town (that's Florence, y'all) via Nashville then Portland duo of Viva Voce. With one dude behind the drums and one lady with the guitar up front, they crank out the bluesy rock. It's kind of like full albums of "When the Levee Breaks" but not really...
They must have a new album coming out soon, b/c I stumbled upon a new Mp3 - "Devotion" (DOWNLOAD). Usually, these two sing together. Here drummer joe takes the vocal lead....eh? I like the girl. Check out "From the Devil Himself" off their last one for a better taste. We'll see how this one shapes up....

"From the Devil Himself" rocks...
Go Bama Go!
