Narcissism

Let's take a step aside for a moment friends.

Do you even see all the internet outlets we as a society subscribe to?

- Facebook
- Twitter (not I - kill me if I ever twitter)
- Blogs
And on and on...

With my 7 posts in less than 72 hours (I did them on purpose leading up to this - I tried to make a post for anything that crossed my mind), vanity is at a premium.

All of these "things" we do are riddled with narcissism. Twitter is the worst. How many different ways do we need to pat ourselves on our backs and affirm our sense of self-importance? Yikes. I'm as guilty as any. I love music and love to talk about it. No one is here to talk to me about it, so I just put it out there. I love it. I don't think I'm better than you (as far as you know). I just wanted someone to talk to. It's sad more than anything - all of these things. Facebook used to be a place to re-connect with friends. It has become an avenue to announce when you are "waking up", "feeling cranky", "partying like a rock star", "going to bed" etc etc....(btw, twitter, real original). Blogs are a pulpit for you to pour out your mind. It's your own column in your own paper. Who cares what we think? Who cares what I think? This blog is going private later this month - private as in non-existent. It's what it has become anyway. Just some food for thought, kids. Eat it up! I can't handle it anymore.

You're so vain....

Signing off for good for now.

It's been fun...

A great place to always catch up with music I never have time to explore or research. Print this all and you will have a slice of life. We will miss you-

Erroneuous! I don't get this post, and i'm not giving up on you like the other replies.

Blogs arent inherently narcicissistic(sp?), they are a way of sharing your mind with like minded people. If you confessed to writing 7 blogs in 4 days and then read them over and over again to marvel at your literary ability or insane knowledge of good music, then I'd say you have a problem.
I don't think you do that, though.

I know it probably feels like you're sending useless knowledge out into the abyss, but the fact is that people like myself do read your blog daily, we may just not comment all the time. Look! You got 5 replies to your post within 24 hours! (Sure, one was Whit and someone else posted twice, but that's neither here nor there).

I work a lot and have 2 small kids. My trip to your blog reminds me that there's still cool stuff out there via music, movies, concerts or sports, things that I used to be really into and have time for. If your blog goes, I won't know what good music to buy or what movie is worth seeing.

Sure, I can't taste the hot dgos at Fenway or lose my hearing at a cool concert, but I can directly link this blog with the worthy purchases of Phoenix, Animal Collective, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Black Kids, Neko Case (M. Cyclone), The Muslims, Andrew Bird, Fleet Foxes: the list goes on.

Narcicissm(sp?) is inherently self-seeking and provides no value to anyone but the narcissist(sp?). Your blog clearly has lots of value to others, outside of your own desire to share your ideas and experiences. Therefore, I would suggest that your blog is inherently anti-narcissistic(sp?). I think you just need some encouragement.

That's my opinion on this tomfoolery. Can someone tell me how to correctly spell narcissism?

Twitter and Facebook are still the devil.

Murph out.

PS - what do you think of p4k's "Decade in Music" so far . . .

phoenix already has 2 songs in the Top 500 (or rather bottom 400 of the Top 500)

i am laughing so hard right now. will...what has gotten into you? leland is right...you need some encouragment. if i'm being honest, i read your blog EVERY time you post but most of the time I'm not cool enough to comment. so really you are just either #1 on another level or #2 before your time...like Arrested Development (the show). keep blogging. keep. blogging.
